Soil Mining
Soil mining is the most easily recognized threat to the Loess Hills. While most people do not notice a change in biological communities over the course of 150 years, and most fail to recognize the threat of invasive species, very few people can miss the scars where the loess was mined for construction fill dirt or to quarry the underlying rock. Following this type of activity, erosion is rampant and non-native species colonize.
